for the earth
- Reducing Waste: Almost everything we purchase comes in packaging. Even cardboard still takes energy and resources to produce, and then to recycle. Buy minimising what we purchase, we automatically reduce the amount of waste we produce- without even trying!
- Sustainability: Reusing, repurposing and upcycling rather than discarding items reduces the amount of products that need to be created, and the amount that ends up in landfill, creating a more sustainable way of living.
- Lowering Carbon Footprint: Reduce the demand for new products, which helps decrease resource extraction and the carbon emissions associated with manufacturing and transportation.
- Supporting Local: Prioritising community sharing and local resources, reduces carbon emissions associated with transportation, and fosters connection to our local people and lands.
- Collective Action: Everyone who completes a no-buy challenge makes a meaningful impact. However, as more people join, the effect multiplies! Increased participation increases the reduction in carbon emissions and gets corporations and governments to take notice of our message.
- Connection to Nature: Caring for the Earth is prioritised, fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural resources we often take for granted.
- Asking Corporations to Do Better: Buying less, sends a clear message against overconsumption and constant advertising. If enough people vote with their wallets by choosing second-hand or high-quality, repairable items, we can drive change in available products and how they are marketed.
